Joshua Goldbas is an artist and instructor living and working in New York City. For the past 20 years Joshua has concentrated on producing watercolors and drawings in a series of journals, creating a family artifact of personal experience and vision. This website presents selections from hundreds of images compiled in the journals, as well as private commissions and larger format paintings.
Joshua was trained at the School of Visual Arts, where his instructors included Don Nice, Jonathan Borofsky and Jennifer Bartlett, and at Columbia University, where he received his degree in film production in 1981.
"I've developed a habit of carrying a blank book and something to draw with no matter where I go. I'm generally a restless person, and the books give me something constructive to do, and offer a way to settle down and keep myself occupied during vacations and family visits. There's always waiting time in New York -- a bank line, a subway delay, a wait for a table in a restaurant. So the book is always an option. Over time, these journals became a genuine record of my family life, and they provide an easy way to create, hold and share memories."
